Camp Culture
Whether you're attending one of our Experience Auctions, relaxing in our lush Moroccan oasis, or getting your ass kicked on the Chicken Beam, Uli Baba's is committed to fostering a culture of consent and inclusivity so all people can have whatever type of experiences they want to have - or not have - at Uli Baba's. 

Consent is Civic Responsibility. Without it, we can't have Radical Self-Expression.

We start from the belief we can all always do better and a shared understanding all activities are opt-in (i.e. we default to assuming "no" until there's a clear "yes"). In practice this means:
  • Consent is an ongoing conversation among all of us. 
  • All campmates are trained in Affirmative Consent and Bystander Intervention (BI).
  • Consent  and BI are part of camp orientation. 
  • We have policies and procedures in place to foster a culture of care and concern amongst ourselves and our honored guests. 

Inclusivity as a Core Value
We recognize the way our behaviors and attitudes reflect the society in which we live the other 51 week of the year. Intersectional systems of oppression don't stay behind in the default world when we're in Black Rock City.  We strive to create a space that is welcoming and inclusive for:
  • Black, Indigenous and all People of Color 
  • LGBTQIA +
  • People of all abilities
  • Poly/non-mono and kinky people
  • Adults of all ages

Bystander Intervention
Camp member training in BI helps us diffuse the natural human response known as the Bystander Effect - which makes all of us susceptible to standing by, rather than intervening, even when our gut tells us something is wrong. For more information about BI philosophy and training, get in touch!


Auction Basics
Our signature events, the Auctions, hinge on Consent, Civic Responsibility, Radical Self Expression, Decommodification, and Radical Inclusion.

Guiding principles for Auctions:
  • All adults 21+ are welcome to participate!  
  • Auctions are participatory events! Spectators detract from the safety of the event, and - quite frankly - the fun. We reserve the right to ask attendees to leave if they are not participating or are participating in problematic ways.  
  • Participation means a willingness to be either a piece of merchandise (this is a very popular role and we have more people selling themselves into servitude each day than we can accommodate) or a bidding buyer. 
  • If you've never attended one of our Auctions, we encourage you to attend the orientation one hour ahead of time.
  • Arrive early or on time! When we're full, we're full!
  • Buyers can only bid with experiences, not things. 
  • Self-sellers can also bid. 
  • The self-seller decides on their own winning bid!
  • Auctions are a way to make wild fantasies come true BUT there are no guarantees. We humbly suggest you leave your expectations at the door, right alongside your shoes. 
  • NO SHOES IN THE TENT!
